Electives

Elective 1           11:50am & 2pm

Walking with Jesus in all seasons of work with Sharon Cooper

How does the good news of Jesus carry us through our early years of work until retirement? Career changes, planned and unplanned, can shake our faith and strengthen our trust in Jesus all at once. This elective explores how the Gospel gives us a framework to draw near to Christ and declare him Lord in every season of work.

Sharon Cooper serves as a full time staff worker at City Bible Forum, which equips men and women in their evangelism. She enjoys creating spaces where community is built through exploring the big questions of life and discovering Jesus in the Bible. Sharon is married to Greg and is based in Melbourne; the city of coffee, art, and infinite stories.

Elective 2           11:50am & 2pm

Creative Workshop for 2023 - Choir- with Mardi Easton

Join our for-one-day only choir! Learn a song in parts together and perform it in our final main auditorium session of the day. A beautiful way to embed our learning from the Psalms.

You don’t have to be fantastic singer- but it would help if you can hold a tune and read music a little.

Choir practice runs over both elective hours, so be aware that you won’t be able to attend other electives if you go this one.

Numbers are limited to 20 people. So contact the office before convention to secure a spot!

Mardi Easton is a high school teacher of “the hard subjects” maths and physics, but she loves getting involved in school musicals and choirs.  She has led school choirs and Christmas choirs and loves to sing in choirs when she gets the chance.

Elective 3           11:50am & 2pm

Organic Evangelism with Helen Bell

We may not all be gifted evangelists, but we all have a unique set of opportunities to share our lives and Jesus with those around us. Discover how to make the most of these God-given opportunities by learning to see unforced, organic gospel themes and connections in everyday conversations.

Helen Bell was our main Bible teacher in 2021 and returns with this elective. Helen has worked with the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES) in student ministry for over 20 years. She is married to Andrew, loves op shopping and a good coffee. She attends Bundoora Presbyterian Church.

Elective 4           11:50am & 2pm

Write your own Psalm with Jessica Lockery

This creative, reflective workshop is your opportunity to write your own psalm for the season you find yourself in. Facilitated by Jess, you will be supported and encouraged to write from the heart in light of the promises of God.

Jessica (nuturethecreative.com) is a fine artist and writer.  Her story is one that winds and her creativity is inspired by her theology. She is passionate about helping others to engage creatively with the world. She attends Merri Creek Anglican Church.

Elective 5           11:50am & 2pm

"Worshiping across the seasons of life together: exploring Intergenerational Ministry" with Chris Barras

Within any church congregation, each generation is a gift and blessing to the other generations.  Yet for many churches, the engagement across the generations may be minimal.  So how do we bring generations together in intentional and meaningful ways, to enable significant interactions through shared experiences that grow each of us in Jesus?  This elective will explore what Intergenerational Ministry is, and give the opportunity to consider what it could look like in your context.

Chris has served in different churches in Melbourne for the past 10 years and is passionate about seeing all generations grow in discipleship, and be equipped and empowered to find their place in God's mission in community together. She is married to Vaughan and they have 2 primary-aged kids.

Chris loves the snow, coffee with friends, board games and escape rooms

Elective 6           11:50 ONLY

Stay and Pray with Mimmie, Pushpa, Feba and Donah.

After our second Session on “Lament” you may want to reflect and pray instead of taking in more content in a standard elective. Our prayer team will be ready to pray with you, or you can use the prayer space for solo time. There will be prayer prompts and other resources to support your time in prayer.

Mimmie, Pushpa, Feba and Donah are a gifted team of intercessors from Regeneration Church Monash. Last year they prayed and supported many of us at Women’s Convention. We are blessed to have them with us again in 2023 with a whole elective session dedicated to prayer support and time out.

Elective 7           2pm ONLY

Walking with God in while the World is Groaning with Rachel Mash

This elective will run once only after lunch in the auditorium.

Hear Rachel speak about her life and work in the church in Southern Africa where the effects of climate change are felt significantly.

Think through your own faith responses to the call to be good stewards of the earth and to love our neighbours in a time when the world is groaning.

We are excited to welcome Rev Dr Rachel Mash - the environmental Coordinator of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. (South Africa, Swaziland(Eswatini) , Lesotho, Namibia). She works with the Green Anglicans Youth Movement which is now active in 13 countries across  Africa. She is also the secretary to the Anglican Communion Environmental Network and sits on the steering group of the Season of Creation group.
